Youth Voice at Vienna AIDS Conference 2010

Chisinau, 2 August 2010 - Anna Susarenco, Y-PEER Moldova Focal Point in Charge, is one of those enthusiastic young people who got the chance to participate at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, which took place during 18-23 July 2010. This Conference is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic.

Anna returned home with multiple impressions about the Conference and gave an interview about her experience in this event.


 

HIV/AIDS recent statistics in Moldova:

1987-2009: 5625 people living with HIV

2009: 704 new cases registered, including 259 in Transnistria region and 5 foreign citizens (in 2008 – 790 new cases registered)

2009: 70 pregnant women registered HIV positive (7 cases in 2001)

2009: 87, 2% of people living with HIV are aged 15-39 years old

HIV/AIDS ways of transmission:

Heterosexual: 8, 3% (2009) vs 18, 1% (2001)

Injection Drug Users: 12, 2% (2009) vs 78, 57% (2001)

1987-2009: 887 people had been diagnosed with AIDS (which is 15, 5%) and 194 people passed away based on this diagnosis

Currently in Moldova 776 people are covered with antiretroviral treatment funded by the Global Fund on TB/AIDS
